Catriona Nicol is a dual qualified Solicitor (England and Wales) and US Attorney (State Bar of California) who specialises in international arbitration and litigation.

She has particular experience in international arbitration (assisting and advising in a range of disputes in the oil and gas, intellectual property and shipping sectors, as well as general commercial disputes) and public international law, having appeared as junior counsel before the International Court of Justice in India v Pakistan (the Jadhav case). She has also provided assistance in connection with claims before the national courts, including in a wide range of regulatory and commercial matters and applications including breach of contract, disclosure, default judgment, freezing injunctions, summary judgment/strike out and challenges to arbitration awards. In 2022, she was awarded the QICDRC Pro Bono Appreciation Exceptional Contribution Award as a result of her contribution to the QICDRC Pro Bono Service.

She has written widely on matters relating to international arbitration and commercial litigation, including co-authoring "Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre. A Guide to the Court and Regulatory Tribunal: Procedure and Jurisprudence" (LexisNexis, 2022) (with Khawar Qureshi KC), "Arbitration of M&A Transactions – A Practical Global Guide" (chapter on England & Wales) (with Joseph Dyke) (2020), "Advisory Opinions of the International Court of Justice" (2018) (with Khawar Qureshi KC and Joseph Dyke), "Conflicts of Interest in International Arbitration" (2016) (with Khawar Qureshi KC), and "Bilateral Investment Treaty Claims: The Essentials" (2016) (with Khawar Qureshi KC). She has also spoken regularly at conferences and webinars on international arbitration, commercial litigation and international law.
